admitted getting their numbers wrong too.  Too high, of course.

very recently ran an antigun reportedly sting operation in Vermont, publishing a "report" and

press release on their "report" 

 

Too many Vermont media printed news articles that were more like PR pieces for Bloomberg's group

rather than objective  journalism.  A major media buy by the Bloomberg group for the "report" came

out in coordination with the release of the "report" the media campaign, the Vermont media

unquestioning media reporting of the "report" of the Bloomberg group.

 

Now, a Vermont gun shop has released a loud and strong objection to way it is has been portrayed

Vermont gun rights advocates and supporters have long had to counter the inaccurate "spin" of fact

reports by Vermont gun control advocates about gun ownership and use in Vermont.  Now, the

Bloomberg group has apparently incorrectly and unjustly defamed this Vermont gun shop.             

All in trying to pass a gun control bill that will not deter crime and create needless expense and

difficultly for private citizens trying to sell their legally owned guns.  This is inexcusable and

unacceptable.

Please call your Vermont Senator(s) at 802-828-2228.  Politely tell them "No to S.31" and to tell

the gun control organizations operating in Vermont to cease such tactics, that they won't work here.

Vermont's gun control group is urging people to call the governor to try to force him to support gun control.   There are 4 bills now.

Governor Shumlin said said voters sent him a message to act on property taxes and education costs, not gun laws or picking the state dog and vegetable.

'I just don't know very many Vermonters who come up to me and say, 'You know governor, all of my problems are because Vermont's gun laws aren't serving us well.' It's not something I'm getting; so let's focus on the things Vermonters asked us to get done."

in the Caledonian Record on Jan. 24 as saying:

"I don't believe (background checks) is a panacea; it's

not the solution to violence in our society, but it's an

important first step."

They are telling you they know S.31 will not deter crime. It is just a

necessary first step in an endless march of state gun control laws.

The VTFSC wishes to thank the hundreds and hundreds of Vermont Sportsmen and Sportswomen who braved the storm on Tuesday to attend the event we sponsored at the Statehouse.  Despite the weather - this was a huge success. 

As a result of that turnout, our Legislators have learned that Vermonters are not going to accept laws that serve no purpose but to make some people feel like they have accomplished something. 

We have momentum building for our cause, but we cannot stop now.

On Tuesday, February 10th, from 5:00 PM on, there will be a Hearing held by the Senate Judiciary on the House Floor for the purpose of public input.  It is imperative that we continue to make our views known and our presence felt, so we again ask all Vermont Sportsmen and Sportswomen to make the time to attend.  Even if you do not wish to speak - filling the House with our people to the point of overflowing will send a powerful message.

Unfortunately, we have no way to pull back everyone who is planning on attending, so we really have no choice: WE ARE MOVING AHEAD WITH THIS EVENT.

Vermonters are being defamed all over the country by former NYC Mayor Bloomberg's gun control group

who are pushing the Vermont gun control bill in the State Senate bill: S.31.  The want NYC gun control in Vermont.

    

Our strength in fighting S.31 is in our numbers, and you are needed to inform your legislators to oppose S.31.

The Vermont Federation is conducting an event at the Vermont State House on Tuesday, January 27.

We will start greeting folks at 2 PM at the primary entrances to the State House, and will be conducting tours and making ourselves to answer questions.  We will also be supplying orange stickers to everyone that will help to identify us if you did not wear orange.  The main portion starting at 5PM in the Statehouse Cafeteria, we will be supplying snacks, and a cash bar will be available.

Parking is somewhat limited if you arrive before 4:30 - 5:00 PM.

After 4:30 - 5:00 PM, parking spaces are much easier to find on the streets and in the parking lots of the

The Vermont Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs was founded in 1875 and is an organization of many clubs with ranks full of responsible citizens.

We take firearm safety very seriously, which is why the Federation and its member clubs invest so much in the training of shooters/hunters, the development of safe ranges, and the training of firearm instructors and range safety officers.

Earlier this week Senate bill S.31 was introduced.  The Federation holds that this bill is unnecessary gun control legislation, it was introduced for a Vermont gun control organization, with this bill inflicting needless expense and damage to the rights of good citizens.  

The Federation has long opposed laws which needlessly restrict the responsible use and ownership of firearms by peaceful citizens. Such gun control laws do not deter crime and only serve to slander the good character of the vast majority of firearm owners, the vast majority of which are responsible citizens.

The Federation does not engage in the legislative or regulatory process in a hasty manner. We believe that laws should not be enacted based upon emotion or public relations campaigns. Instead, legislation must be based upon sound public policy and comply with the state and federal constitutions. It is the Federal position that S.31 does not meet these standards and must be opposed. 

 

This stance is based upon the fact that criminals do not obey laws, and that Vermont is:

• ·        Consistently one of the very lowest crimes rates in the nation,
• ·        Constantly has one of the very best gun safety records, and
• ·        Is not a major source of guns to other states. 

 

S.31 is a solution in search of a problem.  The Federation strenuously opposes S.31.

In rendering our opinion on S.31, the federation has continued its long standing practice of making our knowledge, expertise and decades of experience available on legislation involving firearms.

On January 21st, an article appeared in the Burlington Free Press entitled "Online Sting:  Guns go to wrong people".

The Vermont Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs holds that while this report attempts to show how easy it is for prohibited people to get firearms; it instead underscores and proves the Federation's case for opposing the impending gun control legislation.

Using the gun control group's numbers, we see that 7 out of 169 subjects were prohibited persons, and we note that every one of those 7 sales are already prohibited and illegal by existing Federal law. 

This reveals that Vermont gun control advocates are demanding to close down a currently legal process

that allows sales to 96% percent of honest citizens, just to try to block the 4% that were unlawful.

No matter what restrictions are put in place, criminals will always be able to get guns, be it through the use of "straw man" transactions or the completely illegal black market.  This is because they are criminals and criminals break laws.

The only people who would be subject to a "sting" if the gun control advocates get their way are the honest citizens who would be stung by being barred from lawfully purchasing firearms. 

Gun control advocates find that acceptable, the Vermont Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs and Vermont's large number of lawful gun owners strenuously object.

Fish & Wildlife Dept Holds Free Trapping Seminar

 

The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department will hold a free seminar entitled "Trapping Through the Ice" at the Edward Kehoe Education Center in Castleton, on Saturday, February 7.

 

Vermont Fish & Wildlife warden Dave Gregory will lead topics on regulations, trapping equipment, personal safety, and trapping techniques. Participants will spend a large portion of the day on Lake Bomoseen.

 
"Trapping through the ice can be a great way to get outside in the winter months," said Nicole Corrao, information and education specialist for the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department.  "We're hoping that trappers will leave this seminar with a better understanding of how to safely and effectively trap through the ice."

 

Beavers and muskrats may be trapped until March 31, 2015.  Otters can be trapped until February 28, 2015. 

The seminar will run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and participants are encouraged to bring a lunch, though light refreshments will be served at the event.  Proper attire is required as students will be outside for a majority of this seminar. Vermont Fish & Wildlife will provide all trapping equipment.

Time to Call the Vermont Senate

The Vermont Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs has booked the large Vermont State House Cafeteria

on Tuesday, Jan. 27 for Vermonters to use to express their opposition to gun control legislation.

VTFSC will be working there 2 PM to 7:30 PM. Gun owners need to be there and be heard.

Right now, it is time to call our Vermont State Senators about opposing the upcoming gun control

legislation. Please call the Sergeant-at-Arms Office of the Vermont State House at 802-828-2228.

Ask to to leave a message for both Senators Mullin and Rodgers, message being:

"Please tell the Senate 'No Gun Control Legislation'"

The reason for directing calls to Kevin and John is because they a republican and a democrat,

one from the southern and one from the northern end of the state, and both are good on gun rights.

By sending the message to Kevin and John, other senators will note phone messages being

brought to them and peak interest in the purpose of the telephone messages. Numbers Count!

The Vermont Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs gave a

$1,500 grant to purchase new air rifles for youngsters

to shoot at youngster air rifle exhibit that raises money

The VTFSC also gives out grants to organizations to
teach firearm safety, skills and education programs.

The air rifles that youngsters had been using had very

challenging trigger pulls for the youngsters.  Especially

the little ones, so the VTFSC funded the purchase of

new air rifles.  The difference for the kids is remarkable.

The difference is we spend our money on real issues,
safety and education. Not high priced lobbying firms,
 wine, dinners, and politicians.

Earlier this week it has been reported that several members of the legislature will be introducing legislation to regulate firearms. Since we are not able to read a bill that has specific language, it is difficult to develop a position on a non-existent bill.

The Federation however has long opposed laws which needlessly restrict the responsible use and ownership of firearms by peaceful citizens. Such gun control laws do not deter crime and only serve to slander the good character of the vast majority of gun owners, who are by far, responsible citizens.
